2017 P1 Induction Programme
The Induction Programme in Westwood Primary School took place on 3 rd and 4 th January 2017 for our pupils. Parents and pupils of Primary One were welcomed to the school on the first day and they were invited to take a family photo to mark this special occasion for the Primary One pupils. To develop positive emotions among our pupils on the first day of school, the school has named the day ‘It’s a Happy Day!’ to get pupils to be prepared and look forward to a year of meaningful learning ahead. On top of carrying out the necessary class administrative tasks, teachers carried out a mindfulness lesson where pupils thought about things which made them happy and how they can cope if they ever develop negative emotions.
The Primary Four pupils had a chance to pair up with a Primary One pupil, teaching them the recess routine like putting down their bottles on the correct table, washing their hands and helping them to buy food. The older pupils felt proud of themselves to be able to help a younger pupil and they hoped for more opportunities to do this in future. The parents of Primary One pupils also had the chance to understand the school’s system better through the talks carried out by the school leaders and various heads of departments. It was indeed a meaningful and purposeful two days for everyone.
