Official Opening Ceremony1
On 4 July 2015, Westwood Primary School was officially opened by Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Manpower. It was a joyous occasion graced by many VIPs such as Mrs Theodora Tan, Zonal Director, Schools West, MOE, Mrs Julia Woo, Cluster Superintendent of W8 and Mr Fandi Ahmad, the former national footballer. The football team of Westwood Primary School welcomed our VIPs at the foyer with the playing of the drums.
The group was then ushered to the hall where the unveiling of the plaque marked the official opening of the school. The audience were treated to a special performance by Hannah Kok from 3 Teamwork as the school was the first recipient of a Steinway-designed Lang Lang baby grand piano through the Sing50 Fund's "Adopt-a-Piano" initiative. Caspar Sim from 3 Confidence, together with a professional drone flyer, flew a drone in to deliver the trigger switch which was meant to unveil the plaque. Mr Ng, our principal, gave a speech where he shared with the audience about the school’s journey towards positive education and Vision 2020. Dr Amy Khor gave a speech to encourage the teachers and students of Westwood Primary to work towards becoming the school of choice in the West. Next, a cheque was presented to the Singapore Children’s Society through the fund raising efforts of our students who took part in a donation drive where newspapers were collected.
THRIVE, the Westwood musical was performed by our CCA groups where the character strengths were highlighted and explained during the performance. The musical ended on a high note with a finale when all the CCA groups came out together to dance and sing to the tune of “Everything is Awesome!” VIPs were then taken on a tour around the school while the parents and students took part in the carnival where there were Jive performances by our Primary 1 students and games to be played. It was indeed a memorable event for all of us at Westwood Primary!
