Q1 What are the school facilities?

The school has the most updated infrastructural norms that support PERI initiatives. They aim to facilitate the following schooling functions:

  1. Redesigned Classrooms for collaborative and self directed learning.

Q2 What are the programmes offered at the school?

To achieve MOE’s Desired Outcomes of Education and besides the standard subjects offered by all primary schools, Westwood will be embarking on the PERI initiatives:
  • Programme for Active Learning (PAL)
  • PE, Music and Art (PAM)
  • Form Teacher Guidance Period (FTGP)

Q3 What other distinctive programmes are offered by the school?

In line with the national curriculum and the PERI programmes, Westwood Primary will place emphasis on the provision of Positive Education, focusing on PERMA (Positive emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and Achievements) which promote conditions for all to thrive and flourish, including leadership and service learning opportunities.  These programmes and plans aim to cultivate the key competencies needed for the 21st century. They also serve as key platforms to promote character and citizenship education and to provide pupils will a holistic, all-rounded educational experience.

Q4 What kind of pupil will Westwood aim to develop after 6 years of education?

Westwood pupils will recognize the importance of academic excellence. Beyond that, they will be children who will also flourish and be deeply anchored with the school’s character strengths. They will understand the importance of teamwork, and their significance of being part of a bigger whole in the community. The Westwood pupils will learn to serve the community as the community supports through its open doors. Besides possessing the 21st century attributes of a confident person, self-directed learner, concerned citizen and active contributor, Westwood hopes to graduate pupils who are future ready, anchor steady.

Q5 What activities can the school offer the pupils after school hours?

For 2013, Westwood Primary will be looking to provide outdoor learning journeys and other enrichment activities to its pupils, after they have adjusted and transited into the routines of a primary school. The school will subsequently set up CCAs which cater to the needs and interests of the pupils from Primary 3.

Q6 Will the school be starting classes for the other levels is P2-P6?

Westwood Primary School will not open classes for other levels in 2013. We will consider opening the other levels depending on demand of students requesting to study at Westwood Primary School. 

Q7 What Mother Tongue languages will be offered?

Westwood Primary School is offering Chinese and Malay Language. 

Q8 What is the school uniform like?

Discussions and prototypes of the uniform are underway for the Westwood pupils to look smart and unique, without compromising comfort. The school aims to showcase the uniform prototype for preview and feedback during the soft launch on 19th June. 

Q9 What are the school’s hours for the pupils?

In alignment with PERI initiatives, Westwood aims to be a single-session school committed to holistic education. To facilitate this, the school intends to start school at 8am. This will allow pupils to have adequate rest before they start school every day.

Q10 When will the building be completed?

The school will be operational by December 2012. There will be minor construction works at the peripheral areas but it will be done with utmost consideration of pupils’ safety. 

Q11 Will there be a Student Care Center?

The Student Care Center is a feature of the new PERI infrastructural norms and the school has the necessary rooms for the Student Care Center. However, the facility may not be ready to open in January 2013 for operations. We will explore the opening of the student care center depending on the needs of the pupils as well as careful selection of the service provider.

Q12 Is a school bus available?

Yes, the school will provide more details about transport arrangements and bus vendors during the P1 Orientation Day. 

Q13 Will the school have enough staff to start school operations?

Westwood Primary will have enough teachers and support staff to ensure smooth running of the programmes and quality care for all our pupils when school starts.

How many vacancies are available at Westwood Primary School ?

The number of Primary One vacancies each school will offer for the Primary One Registration Exercise will be made available in June before the registration begins.
