ICT in English

“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.” ~ Margaret Fuller

In line with the English Department’s vision to nurture avid readers, the school has purchased subscription memberships to an online reading portal (myON Reading Portal) for all our P1 to P6 pupils.
The myON Reading Portal is a digital library that provides our pupils with a database of more than 5000 digital books. Pupils can read these books online or offline. What is special about this portal is that it personalises reading for pupils by recommending books based on their interests, reading level and ratings of books they had read.

Pupils can also improve in their comprehension skills as they will have access to pop quizzes after they have read a book. Pupils who need additional support in reading will also benefit as the books come with audio functions that allow the books to be read audibly to them. Additionally, the embedded literacy tools in the portal allow pupils to check the online dictionary for meanings, annotate texts, highlight good phrases and pin notes for future reference.

As a parent, you can also use your child’s membership to select reading books for them. 20 books can be downloaded at a time to your laptops or iPads. Once your child has finished reading these books, you can continue to download another 20 books for your child to read offline. This is a great way to engage your child during his/her free time.
